About AYSO - A Little Background

Structure

Structure of AYSO:

AYSO is a national organization whose program is found throughout the United States as well as Puerto Rico and Moscow, Russia. There is an organization structure in place to provide training and logistical support to the volunteers and players of AYSO, no matter where they may be.
Region
This is the level of the organization where the games are played and are generally associated with a city or town. The Region is comprised of players, coaches, referees, board members and other volunteers who participate in the playing of games and the operation of the organization. Each region is headed by Regional Commissioner (RC) who, with the help of a Regional Board, conducts the region within the framework of AYSO's Tenants, Rules and Regulations, and By-laws. A region may have as few as 200 players or as many as 5,000 players grouped into girls and boys divisions based on age. In Simi Valley, we are known as Region 121.
Area
This is the next "higher up" level of the organization which is made up of a number of regions that are geographically located close to each other. There is an Area Staff whose primary function is to provide training and administrative support to the regions. The Area is headed by an Area Director (AD) who is responsible for the performance and growth of the Area. Simi Valley is in Area E.
Section
Several bordering Areas are grouped into a Section headed by a Section Director (SD) who is responsible for the general welfare and administration of a Section. A Section may cover several states, and entire state, or a portion of a state. There is no such thing as a "state association" in AYSO. Simi Valley is in Section 10.
Governing the overall organization is the National Board of Directors. Regional commissioners, area and section directors, and national board members serve as executive members and vote on AYSO national policies and rules.

The AYSO National Support & Training Center (NTSC) in Hawthorne, California, works closely with all executive members, sections, area, and regions to provide many vital services such as:
  1. Computerized Registration
  2. Annual Section Meeting Support
  3. Training of Field and Administrative Staff
  4. Liability and Accident Insurance
  5. Organization-wide Communications
