Players InformationVIP Information |
The AYSO VIP program is designed for those players whose disability prevents
them from participating successfully on a typical AYSO team.
Successful participation is a player’s enjoyment and the safety of all
team members. While a child in a wheelchair may be enjoying himself out on the
field, they may be putting the other players safety at risk.
To limit a child in a wheelchair to only doing throw-ins for the safety
of the players limits the child’s enjoyment of the game.
The program is designed for players with both mental and physical disabilities. Many players with only physical disabilities may chose to be integrated on a mainstream team. Players at least 4 ½ years old can participate on a AYSO VIP team. As long as a player remains on a VIP team there is no upper age limit.
The AYSO VIP program is based on the same five AYSO Philosophies as the mainstream program, EVERYONE PLAYS, BALANCED TEAMS, OPEN REGISTRATION, POSITIVE COACHING AND GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP. Balanced teams is the trickiest of the five, given the varying age, size and ability levels. When sufficient numbers allow an age split is attempted. The original intent and ultimate result as still the same.
