Coaching Information

Are you a brand new coach?  Here is some information for you!

To become certified to coach in any division there are 3 things you need to accomplish.  First, a volunteer form needs to be turned in.  You can find this at www.eayso.org.  You will need to complete this, print 3 copies, sign them all, and turn them in, in person, to someone on the board.  They will check your ID and have your volunteer form processed.  Ask your division director who you can turn this in to.

Once that volunteer form is turned in an AYSO ID number will be generated.  This is YOUR ID number.  Your division director will provide that to you, AFTER your volunteer form is turned in.  With that ID number, you need to take the Safe Haven for Coaches.  This is a 30 minute online course that will train you on safety and keeping you and your team players safe.  This can be found at www.aysotraining.org.  Safe Haven only needs to be taken once in your coaching career with AYSO.  Once youve taken it once, you dont have to do it again if you coach next year or move up to a new division a few years from now.

The third step is to get certified for the division you are coaching.  This requires attending a coaching clinic.  For U6 through U12 they are typically a one Saturday clinic.  For U14 and U16, they are a Friday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday.  This may seem like a lot but there is a lot to know and AYSO wants the best possible coaches for the youth in our program!

You need to attend a new clinic each time you change divisions.  This means that if you are already certified for U10, and now you want to coach a U6 team, you need to attend the U6 clinic.  You are not automatically certified for lower divisions if you have an upper division certification.  You must attend the entire coach clinic for certification.

Only when you complete all three of these steps are you eligible to receive a team roster.  Rosters will be passed out at the end of July.  There will be a mandatory coach meeting at that time and that is when teams will be passed out.  At that meeting you will get your gear (coach manual, bag, ball, sub planner, etc.) and your team roster.
